Success Story: STEM Academies
STEM Academies-Southern
In the summer of 2018, six STEM Academy camps were held across the Southern Workforce area. The two day camps included 100 young adult participants in Idabel, Durant, Ardmore, Ada and Poteau.
The camps concentrated on a variety of STEM related employment topics, designed to enlighten STEM Challenge Academy participants on available careers and their educational pathways. In addition to the STEM related focus, elements of the workplace and personal life skills which ensure successful employment were also incorporated.
During day 1 of the two day sessions participants focused on technical occupations and the educational pathways. Participants also learned about local and state employment opportunities in STEM related areas.
On Day 2 participants focused specifically on the non-technical workplace skills that ensure success on the job and in life. It is important that participants understand the bigger picture beyond having the technical skill sets coveted by employers.
