Success Story: Amanda Cody

Amanda Cody-Northeast

Amanda Cody was living in Nowata and working in the school cafeteria when she was laid off. Knowing that only working during the school year was not going to continue to pay her bills, she knew she was going to have to seek other work. Amanda learned about educational opportunities available to her through the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

During that time, she was referred to Shelia Walker, career manager at the Pryor American Job Center. Amanda told Sheila of her dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Sheila assisted her with funding for training for LPN classes through Northeast Technology Center.

Amanda is now a licensed LPN making $19.75 an hour working at Hillcrest Hospital in Claremore. She has plans to continue her education and begin working towards her Registered Nurse Certification. Amanda said she’s proud she made her dream come true and could have never done it without the support of her family, classmates, teachers and career manager Shelia Walker in Pryor.
